Анотація
Вивчення будови та геодинаміки Землі є одним з фундаментальних напрямків наук про Землю. Mетою статті є надати відомості про плюм Росса, який був виявлений у південно-західній частині Тихого океану біля та під західною окраїною Антарктиди. Цей плюм не згадувався як суперплюм в сейсмічній томографічній літературі та в каталогах. Суперплюм Росса був виявлений методом гравіметричної томографії, розробленим в Інституті геологічних наук Національної академії наук України Р.Х. Греку. За даними гравітомографії у статті розглянуто складну геометрію суперплюма, свідчення посегментного обрушення палеотихоокеанського слеба (одного з них до глибини 4800 км) і його розташування у межах вже існуючого надглобального геотермального конвективного потоку під впливом якого до цього часу перебувають південно-західна частина Тихого океану, Західна Антарктида та західна частина Східної Антарктиди. Основні висновки включають наступе: поєднана дія двох факторів – наявність потужного геотермального потоку та у його межах проникнення слеба в глибини зовнішнього рідкого ядра призвели до утворення двох основних формацій суперплюма Росса. Вони утворилися в різних структурно-густинних умовах: південна формація (R) сформувалася біля та під обдукційною окраїною Антарктиди (з глибини нижньої мантії, 1300 км), північна (L) – утворилася під океанічною літосферою (з глибини зовнішнього ядра, 3500 км). Формування суперплюма Росса співпадає з подією 100 Ma глобальної перебудови літосферних структур, первинна причина якої не була з’ясована. Ми вважаємо тригером цієї події вибухове утворення суперплюма Росса. Наші результати були інтерпретовані, використовуючи доступні відкриті літературні дані про цей регіон і вони не суперечать існуючому розумінню його геодинамічної історії.
